History
Barnet Deaf Football Club was founded on March 1st 2005 by a group of local deaf footballers. They soon set up a five-a-side team which was entered into the Power league in Mill Hill East. Soon afterwards more and more people were interested in join Barnet DFC, and in September 2005 Barnet DFC entered the Barnet Sunday Football league.
The first season was a learning curve for Barnet and with any new team it takes time to build greatness. Barnet was a newly founded deaf team in London and has a great deal of work to do if it wants to become the number one deaf team in London following the likes of S.T Johns DFC and Fulham DFC. The story to date, has been a roller coaster to say the least but are finally making a name for ourselves within the rellams of the British Deaf Football.
Barnet first season ended with them finishing 8th in the league.
The second season season Barnet decided to enter the BDF Cup for the very first time. Manager Leo Mansell was optimistic after the first season with new players joining Barnet DFC. In the league Barnet finished 7th in the league. In the BDF Cup first round Barnet were drawn against a very strong Everton team. The trip was a early start up to the North West for Barnet and proved to be a miserable as the weather Barnet went down 6-2. In the plate cup Barnet again had a long journey up to Scotland to play St Vincent’s from Glasgow, once again Barnet has failed to make an impact eventually losing 5-3.
The third season proved to be a roll-a-coaster. The season started off well with Barnet collecting their first ever clean sheet and things looked to be on the up for Barnet. Barnet were drawn with St Johns in the EDF Cup first round it what looked to be an improbable task. However after going in at half time 4-3 down and St Johns trying to get a hold of the match. St Johns came out in the second half and showed Barnet why they are one of the best footballing teams in deaf football. St Johns eventually ran out 9-3 winners. An early exit in the Middlesex County Cup soon afterwards sent Barnet on a downward spiral that would shape the coming months.
Barnet DFC were then drawn to play Fulham DFC in the first round of the BDF Cup. Barnet were confident going into the game and were hoping to re-produce the first half performance against St Johns but it was never to be Fulham went on to win the game which proved to be manager Leo Mansell last game in charge. Barnet would like to thank Leo for his time and effort he put into Barnet DFC. The search for a new manager was on. Barnet finally appointed their new manager Ossie kellman. Ossie would have a very hard job in trying to pick up a team who was low in morale and confidence. However Ossie started to rebuild the team from scratch. The league became like a training session for Barnet as Ossie tried players and systems out and thus concentrating of the cups that Barnet were left in.
Barnet made it through a very tough group in the Spring cup and made a supprise appearance in the semi final but that as far as it went. Barnet then travelled to the East midlands for a quarter final game with Wolverhampton in the BDF Plate. In a tight game Barnet eventually lost 2-1.
In the EDF Plate Barnet were drawn against Whitley Bay in the Semi final and after a tight first half Barnet made it through to their first ever cup final.
The league finished with Barnet second from bottom and a season to forget in the league. The EDF Final proved to be an exciting game with Charlton. Barnet went on to win their first ever thropy winning 4-3.
The forth season is now under way and Barnet have moved to the London Ametaur Saturday league in which they hope to prove a success.
